WELCOME …

to the website of the Spanish Peaks Volunteer Fire Department and the Bon Carbo Volunteer Fire Department, collectively known as the Spanish Peaks/Bon Carbo Fire Protection District.  Although we are two individual and distinct Fire Departments, as one united Fire Protection District, we are jointly dedicated to public safety and awareness.

On the menu on the left, you will find links to both Fire Departments that comprise the Spanish Peaks/Bon Carbo Fire Protection District.  On each Fire Department’s page, there are links to important information such as: how to obtain a burn permit; wildfire mitigation; how to become a volunteer firefighter, EMT, or auxiliary member; and disaster preparedness.  Each department has a blog; there you can find up-to-date information relating to public safety, events, and emergency information in your vicinity.

The Bon Carbo Volunteer Fire Department covers the town of Bon Carbo, its’ surrounding area, and several subdivisions, including Spanish Highlands, Whispering Pines, Purgatorie Recreation area, Picketwire, Rancho LaGarita, Arrowhead Ranchettes, Rancho Verde, and Fisher’s Peak Ranches.  Some of these subdivisions are in bordering areas between two different fire protection districts, so (in non-emergency situations ONLY) you will need to call the Bon Carbo Volunteer Fire Department if you’re curious as to which fire protection district serves your area (click the Contact Us link to the left).

The Spanish Peaks Volunteer Fire Department covers the towns of Aguilar, Gulnare, and their surrounding areas, as well as twenty miles of I-25 and several subdivisions, including Apishapa River Ranch, Apishapa River Valley Estates, Aspen Rose Ranch, Big View Estates, Bighorn Ranch, Bighorn Sheep Ranchettes, Blackhawk Ranch, Black Hills Ranch, Cimmarron Ranch, Cordova Mesa, DelAgua Canyon, La Mariposa, Panadero Valley Ranch, Pinon Ridge Estates, Ponderosa Hills, River Pines Ranch, Ridgeview Ranch, Spanish Peaks Ranch, Spanish Peaks Ranch Estates, Spirit Mountain Ranch, Trails West, Trujillo Creek Ranch, Twin Valley Ranch, and Virmillion Ranch.  Some of these subdivisions are in bordering areas between two different fire protection districts, so (in non-emergency situations ONLY) you will need to call the Spanish Peaks Volunteer Fire Department if you’re curious as to which fire protection district serves your vicinity (click the Contact Us link to the left).  Because of its’ large coverage area, Spanish Peaks Fire Department operates two separate stations: one in the town of Aguilar and one located in Gulnare.
